About Us

The specific purpose of this corporation shall be for social and fraternal purposes and to foster and perpetuate the comradeship and memories of the incidents in our Association in World War II.”

In accordance with this statement in our by-laws, we have:

  • Commissioned a painting of our ship, and placed lithographs of it in Post Offices, Libraries, VFW and American Legion posts, etc. throughout the country. The original painting is in the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, FL.
  • Placed a monument to our fallen shipmates at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
  • Joined with the other ships of “Taffy III” and built a monument in San Diego to commemorate our participation in The Battle off Samar.
  • Joined with other Aircraft Carriers Associations and built a monument in San Diego to commemorate all Aircraft Carriers.
  • Placed a bronze plaque with the names of our lost shipmates aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown in Charleston, SC.
  • Placed a plaque in the Nimitz museum in Fredericksburg, TX.
  • Purchased two seats in the auditorium of the Navy Memorial in Washington D.C. and placed the names of our lost shipmates in the Navy Memorial Log online.
  • Developed this website to familiarize viewers with the history of The St. Lo/Midway and Squadron VC 65.
  • Published a newsletter three times annually, distributed to a mailing list of over 450 people.
  • Placed the names of all of our aircrew men in the Combat Aircrew Hall of Fame aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown in Charleston, SC.
  • We installed a sound system to play Taps at dusk at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in commemoration of our lost shipmates.
  • We supported bringing the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Midway (CV-41), our namesake, to San Diego, where it will become a museum, with our own exhibit prominently displayed.
